For example, I lived in a dinky studio with a bed, cheap Ikea table, and my dinky 20" screen TV for just over a year. The rent was fairly cheap and affordable. Because I had the self control I was able to save up for a pimp plush condo that I just move into this weekend. I actually have more money than I expected so I went out this past weekend and bought a sick sectional and dinning room table. Its all about the delayed gratification. If you can make a sacrafice and cut back on thing for your ultimate goal, thats the way to get what you want. You don't have to make a ton of cash, you just have to be smart with you money and what you buy.
Well right now i'm doubling up on my car payments so i can have it payed off by summer of 08. My ultimate goal for right now is saving up for a nice down payment on a car in the 1st quarter of 09.

make a budget of all your necessities and transfer the rest into an online savings account, as mentioned above. here's an example of mine

-400 monthly rent
-90 bridge tolls
-110 gas
-50 cell phone
-250 food
-200 misc shit

monthly expenses add up to 1100. any money i make above my expenses automatically get immediately transferred into a savings account.

last year, i didn't make a budget and saved 0 the entire year. this year, sticking to my budget, i've already saved $4400 and it's only february.

i just do an automatic transfer into my savings account (ING) every time i get paid. you don't miss what you don't have. this helps me out a lot since i'm also a serious shopaholic. and since i don't like to carry a balance on my credit cards, i don't buy anything i can't pay for by the end of the month. i pretty much leave just enough in my checking to get me through until i get paid again.

just paypal me your excess fundages. i will control them for you, you tell me you need money and i make sure it sounds like something you really need. you know like gas, food, etc. otherwise i say no h: then i paypal it back, you have a 3 business day wait which acts like a "cooling off period" if after those 3 days you still think you need the food or gas that i approved, you can get it.

whats wrong with your current car? why don't you try to get as much out of your current car as you can. not having to make a car payment every month will free up so much money and you can afford to do a whole lot more like save up for a downpayment for a house. I'm still driving my 99 accord, its got 170K on the odometer, its on its 2nd engine technically and it drives great and still looks pretty good. I'm going to drive it till it falls apart, cause I enjoy having the extra cash and no car payment. Fixing my car is still cheaper than having a car payment for the next 4-5 years.
