Preinstalled with SP2 or no? Might want to look at slip streaming yourself a copy with all the updates/hotfixes + remove all of the unneeded garbage. nLite was the program I used to use.

Did you install anything else in between the reformat and the SP2 install?

want to know where your problem is? you install windows updates.

At first I reformatted my comps and immediately disabled windows updates and they ran very stable. I forgot to do this a few times and reformatted 3 times in 2 weeks.

My rule of thumb: never, NEVER use windows updates.
Reformat, disable updates from services.msc, profit with stability

and get an xp install which comes with SP2, let me know if you need

There is nothing wrong with getting the updates. Issue is sometimes people install things out of order. General rule of reformatting is reinstall windows, drivers, updates, antivirus, then programs.

:werd: theres nothing wrong with updates.

ive noticed that using a slipstreamed sp2 cd runs much better compared to using a regular copy of xp and installing every update on top of that.

Well I don't have a windows install CD with SP2 so that won't solve it.

Should I use the repair function on the Windows CD?

If you have a DVD burner, you can just make a slipstreamed version of your copy of windows w/ SP2. There are websites that tell you how to do this if you google it.
