Starter bikes are hard to determine.

There are people that learn really quickly and can start on a 600cc sportbike right away. Some people prefer to stay super safe and start on a 250. Bottom line is if you are careful and not ride like Rossi right away then you will have no problem.

The great thing about the MSF is that they will pick a bike for you to start on. When I took the class, I started on a 250cc Yamaha cruiser. The bigger people in my class were on 650s. From there I was able to get a grasp on how much control I have on the bike size. The 250s were great but I was confident I could handle more than that, so I went out and bought a Ninja 636.
