lol, nah. I am beginning to think 7k is a bit steep since there are pristine ones in the area for that much. I think I'd take it down to $6,400 for non-members. Hanners get the $400 discount

um check the Motorcycle forum. It may be somewhat dead but there's several threads like this with answers.

Beginner's MSF course has gone up to ~$200 last time I checked. Glad I took mine earlier. h:

Get something crappy cause you'll pretty much ruin it. I've dropped my RVT like a half dozen times already...I've had it fixed each time, but it's still not the same after.

I need to get a newer one at some point. h:

Make sure you have good health insurance...motorcycle insurance doesn't cover you.

great starter bike if you want to get into sportbikes cause you get the feel of riding position etc but it's not TOO much bike to get you into trouble. it's not IF you crash or drop it, it's WHEN

take the msf course. it'll teach you alot & most insurance companies will give you a discount for it.

insurance rates are hard to say cause they vary GREATLY from carrier & depend on motor size.....anything over a 600cc will ass rape you....especially if you are a newbie

1) how much does insurance normally cost for one?
Depends on the company. Depends on what kind of bike, your age, married or not, if you took the MSF, etc. Personally I got hooked up with State Farm (best provider for bikes) and am only paying $46/mo for full coverage.

2) would it be more if I financed it?
Yes. Better to buy it outright than to finance. I was impatient and sort of bought mine on impulse and am paying out the ass for it, but there are no regrets.

3) what doI have to do to get a motorcycle license?
One of two choices:
a) Learn by yourself and take the DMV riding test in their parking lot
b) Pass the MSF course and take a written test at the DMV

From what I've seen you're a rather hefty fellow. That might look kind of awkward.
