if you're wondering the keys are required as it'd take a supercomputer to brute the things open, but at least it's a workaround incase you were one of the unlucky early-adopters of DVI instead of HDMI... (as if they'd cut us off anyway...)

something doesn't jive with the video now that i'm looking at it again, it says feature_1.EVO is only 4.XX gigs, that makes absoulotely no sense as a regular DVD feature can easily go over that, let alone a movie as long as FMJ in HD-DVD

I don't see why any company makes the claim "unhackable", I know every programming company does it but it just makes em look stupid when the next week it is not only hacked but also offered around the web before they can stop it.

 

could be that he didn't rip the whole movie. it'd probably take quite awhile, and when you just proving a point, there's no need to go through the whole thing.

 

theres a program out called backuphddvd.... which comes with keys for several popular titles bundled :shhh:

 

and i still believe that the greatest enemy to blu-ray AND HD-DVD is well, blu-ray, it's a self destroying process as the only things that will be able to hold all these god damned movies are going to be inexpensive blu-ray discs, which in a few years should be up to 100gigs and about a buck a peice.

which sucks so bad because Blu-Ray is about to lose the battle before it begins, seeing as sony basically tripped on it's own feet by selling most of it's large allies in the war those pesky recall batteries.

and then theres the whole thing about needing their system to play them on (that or a $800+ player) and the fact that they don't realize they are about to end up with something thats going to be about as useful as a MD walkman in a few years.

 

Are you saying HD-DVD is going to die off? Not sure I follow your post correctly.

Blu Ray I can see dying off rather quickly simply because HD-DVD has had a presence in the market for a year or so now and has affordable players (relativley). Because of that presence the likleyhood that HD players will be affordable to all in the near future is much higher.

Then you have the shelves to look at for discs...I have yet to see a BluRay disc on the shelf, but I can go to a dozen stores and find HD discs with many titles.

Another issue as you pointed out is that Sony has a streak of losing formats beginning with Beta in the late 70s early 80s, Atrac, MD, memory stick and the list goes on.

It is going to be interesting to see how this battle plays out and what companies invest in which format. So far if you look at the backers for each it does look like HD-DVD has a majority backing with movie studios.

 

i'm saying that blu-ray is most likely going to fail, as dell and others were hurt by those defective laptop batteries that sony gave them (dell and sony, among some others are all partners pushing blu-ray)

it's also a shame because the only media capable of holding archived copies of HD content will be the blu-ray disc, which without broad acceptance will most likely not be the best cantidate for archiving movies due to the $$$ factor

this is unless 4+TB starts becoming the norm for HDD storage (which i cannot forsee happening EVER, esp with the constant movement in the solid-state storage)

Holographic discs or bust. Really, HD and Blu really don't offer THAT much more. A bit, yes, but not as much as they should be. Holographic is still expensive, but wouldn't be if all the money wasted on HD and Blu was put into in AND we'd have 500gb discs right now for a buck.

well, i agree that holograpic is promising, but for the home market i don't see it happening for the next few years if at all. i'd expect holographic discs to find a niche market in cinema, where carrying lossless video and audio is more important than at home on even a 60+" widescreen TV.

i also feel that holographic is just too advanced right now, the implementation would be shoddy at best and it'd take forever to catch on due to quality assurance issues, mainly with hardware.
