(1) set of speakers that just hook into the AVR.
Most AVR's have "outs" now, so you can run the sound to a PC and capture it though the "rec" jack on your soundcard. Adobe Audition is a great recording program

Anything that has an RCA out can be plugged into it.
for example ...
get the AVR, then attach a DVD player to it. Run the video line to the TV, and the audio lines to the AVR and you're set.
The AVR has all sorts of optical "ins", so you're going from a digital sound output (dvd) to a digital sound input (AVR optical). No more "digital" to "analog" conversions.
Have you seen the difference between a HDTV using HDMI vs component cables? Your resolution goes from 480p to 1080p.
Same thing with sound.
