so ...
If you want to rip an HD-DVD, you need an HD-DVD player to begin with ... so not much cost savings there.
If you want to backup an HD-DVD, those writers kinda don't exist. (Pioneer BDR-101A, Blu-Ray = $1300 + $30 per blank)
@ 15 to 25GB per HD-DVD disc, you'll fill a 300GB HDD after 12 movies.
cool that the hacker broke the seal, but not really practical in 2006.

BUT u can watch a HD movie without the HD DVD player, all u need is the monitor. btw the dude was using his xbox usb hd dvd player, and u can buy one for under $200. also because the dvd is 25gb capacity it doesnt mean the movie has to be 25gb. blu-ray is 25gb or 50gb per disc capacity. anyway the guy did it because he didnt have some especial video card or adapter for his monitor in order to watch the movie so he got mad and crack the thing in 8days.
If you want to rip your own HD-DVD's, you can attempt to download a 25gb file off of a torrent. Otherwise, you kinda do need to buy the 360 kit at the bare minimum and locate hacked drivers.
:dunno: :werd:
I'm guessing he was using a DVI connection to a PC monitor that wasn't "HDCP" compatable.
