It's because you don't know how to drive worth a shit.

I would keep it and drive the thing until it dies. Then keep the money and have that good feeling of having money there.

I would put the 4k in the bank (use for school if you need it, or to help you get going after school). Put the car in storage or leave it at your parents' house for a semester until you figure out whether or not you'll really need a car. If the car serves no purpose at school, sell it and put the money in the bank along with your 4k. If you can use the car, bring it to school and drive/maintain it, but don't bother with it as a project.

Thats what my project car/school experience leads me to suggest. I've wasted so much unnecessary money/time that I could have put to much better use. h:

:edit: a teg is a great snow car. You need tires or driving lessons :fawk:

The thing about Kettering is that after every semister I will have a co op job at an undisclosed location... I will need a car for that... and that also could be up in Michigan... the cyle goes 3 months at school 2 week break, 3 months work 2 week break 3 months school etc...

I drove around all winter in a 1989 BMW 325i (5 speed) with well worn all seasons with very little trouble, and I drive back roads most of the time that are the last to see a plow. If you have A/S tires or tires the look cool but only work in the summer look into good winter tires on all four wheels. You don't need AWD or 4WD to get through the winter.

Well then I would keep the car, but don't throw $4,000 at what is already good reliable transportation. Save the money for something more important.

Oh yeah, Flint is flat not hilly like it is in Maryland. For that matter most of Central Michigan is flat.
