Come to think of it a PC runs off of 12v DC and car accessories run off 12v DC. I've run car accessories off a PC power supply before... So I'm thinking running the HD off the car might not require an inverter if it's hooked up right. That may be worth finding an old HD laying around to find out.

Depends on how much wattage the pc/hard drive uses.

Get the firefly portable hard drives, they're good quality and can be found cheap if you shop around.

I found this one on ebay for $63 shipped.

from crutchfields web site
USB Port: The front-panel USB port allows you to play USB flash drives loaded with MP3 and WMA files. The USB port can be used with flash drives with a maximum storage capacity of 1GB. The port is not compatible with hard drive based MP3 players, and it isn't compatible any Apple iPods, including the iPod shuffle. MP3 files with a bit rate from 8-320 kbps and WMA files with a bit rate from 48-192 kbps are supported. Folder names up to 16 characters long, and file names up to 28 characters in length, can be displayed.
there goes that idea, still 1gig is plenty for me :hs:

Great, but this is for my MR2. I'd rather have a cupholder there :happysad:
