I lost my cell phone (need advice)
For the first time in 8 years, I lost my cell phone (first generation RAZR V3 BLK). I think I lost it while we were snow drifting last night with Skelly GSR and I couldn't find it all night.
My current carrier is Cingular and I need a new phone. I already reported that the phone was lost so the phone is suspended, but what do I do now? I was looking at some deals on the Samsung Blackjack from Cingular and they're charging me $199.99 after mail-in-rebate of $100 to keep my existing plan but upgrading my phone.
Amazon.com has a deal where the service plan is $39.99 per month aand they make you choose "Plan Options" (i.e. PDA MAX Bundle, etc) for $49.99/month or the lesser $39.99/month bundle. That's where I'm lost. Does that mean that they're charging you $49.99/month in addition to the new service plan of $39.99/month? The total comes out to $99.99 for the phone with the new service plans and options. I'm really confused here and any inputs will help. Thanks

Unless you have insurance, there's nothing much you can do.
If you're out of contract, you could get a new phone through cingular etc and it'll be like renewing your contract for another 1 or two years and they'll cut you a deal for a new phone.
But if you're still under contract, then you're gonna have to pay full price for a phone.
Though if you're 10 months in to a 1 year plan, or 22 months to a 2 year plan, they might be nice enough to let you do an upgrade (depends on the CSR).
Otherwise, you'll probably be looking through ebay/craigslist for a phone if you don't want to pay full price.

Cingular has a weird structure of their unlimited data plans.
If you have a device that qualifies as a PDA to Cingular, to get unlimited data is $44.99 a month for the "Data Connect Unlimited" plan. This plan is in addition to your voice plan. Any device with a QWERTY keyboard, touch screen, or both, the only way you can get unlimited internet is the Data Connect Unlimited.
They have another plan called "Smartphone Connect Unlimited" which is for a grand total of two Cingular-branded phones made by HTC, the 2125 and 3125. They have Windows Mobile but the only input method is the standard cell phone numeric keypad so Cingular has cheaper data plans for them. The 2125 is a rather chunky bar style phone, the 3125 is a flip. I have the 3125, and I got it specifically because of the cheaper data plan.
Both the Data Connect and the Smartphone Connect do not include text messages, so I tacked on an additional $4.99 a month for 200 text messages.
For "regular" phones you can get various Media Max Bundles that include unlimited internet (but only the basic WAP kind that you get on non-smartphones) and varying numbers of text messages. The cheapest one with 200 texts is $19.99.
So to recap,
PDA = voice plan + Data Connect Unlimited (44.99) + text plan
Smartphone = voice plan + Smartphone Connect Unlimited (19.99) + text plan
phone = voice plan + Media Max Bundle of whatever text message quantity you want (start at 19.99 including 200 texts)

i was told by someone that works at cingular that you can get the mediamax 200 and as long as you don't register your imei with them, you can use the data using that plan.
edit: more on that here - http://forums.cingular.com/cng/board...essage.id=9306
upon further investigation, if you have a PDA phone, you can use the mediamax plan as long as your browser is set to use the gateway wap.cingular.com instead of isp.cingular.com and i think you have to make sure the rep takes off the "PPU" (pay per use) media code or some shit

Yes that's the trick, with the rebates and whatnot you have to give up the IMEI and thus you can only sign up for the intended data plan. If you acquire a phone through any other source that you don't need to give the IMEI to Cingular, then you're good to go.
god bless ebay :bigok:

450 minutes $39.99/month
Internet/MMS/Connect $19.99/month
so the monthly payments should be around $60 give or take
I payed $220.00 for the phone after a $100.00 mail-in-rebate.
*I'm thinking about adding on the Text Starter for $4.99 because I'm a texting whore
