won an ebay auction for an 8125 w/ all accessories, a 2gb card and a spare battery for 300 shipped. every other one i bid on in the past few days went over 300 with no card and no spare battery

See if you can get Cingular to sign you up for an unlimited data plan that is not their overpriced "PDA Connect" nonsense for 40 bucks a month.
One reason I'm digging my 3125 is Cingular hooked up the Smartphone Connect for 20/month but I'm thinking if down the road I get any kind of unlocked phone I should be able to continue that plan with Cingular being none the wiser.
