Default DC to AC inverters...

I bought Microsofts Street and Trips GPS software/hardware so I could keep track of how far I've driven and how far I am from my next destination. What size (watt) inverter would I need to keep my laptop powered?

I run my cell phone (evdo) and my laptop off of a 120v 60hz 100watt inverter. I ran it all the way from Detroit to SD and back pretty much on 24/7 and it never failed to keep my laptop/phone fully charged. It even has a USB on it so you can power something via USB if you need to such as a phone charger ETC.

picked it up from Best Buy. It comes with a chord to plug into the cigarette lighter and also comes with the airlines attachment so you can plug into the older style A/C outlets on airplanes before they put in the regular plugs. It has come in quite convenient. It is also fairly small and comes in its own little case that tucks away nicely in a laptop bag.

called teh Vector iMobile

Does it require wiring to the battery?

my 400w i bought is a vector, and it doesnt require direct wire...you can direct wire if you want, but you can also use the cigarrete adapter like i did, comes with both. worked beautifully

Yea, I'd look at getting a DC-DC adapter instead of a converter.
