i realize california rolls arent exactly sushi, but for that matter from what ive been learning from my friend who is really into it, my concepts and most americans concept of sushi is far off...it hardly means raw fish like most think

From my understanding, anything that is "maki" is a roll. That is what I usually get. But I want to try the stuff where it is rice with a piece of fish on top. THAT is real sushi.

umm, so i am a white guy from iowa, so help me out with this.... isent it all rice fish and seaweed? i know you can get it with veggies and stuff... but how does weather you roll it up.. or press the rice, put the fish on top of it and tie a peice of seaweed around it make any difference at all??? not to mention if the seaweed is on the inside or outside??? i think it would all taste the same... because it is the same thing.... right?
