So yeah, it was fucking horrible...beyond words. It's really hard to see a guy that I respect and care for so much in the shape that he's in. His liver has pretty much completely stopped functioning and he goes in and out of conciousness/lucidity...sometimes he'll rant about stuff that happened 40 years ago, sometimes he talks about facing God. He recognized me and was happy to see me, which was the point of the trip and made it all worth it...but he's in really, really bad shape and has a couple weeks left at the most, most likely only a few days. So looks like I'll be going back to NY twice before Thanksgiving even comes.
