They may have actually been going only 30 - that pillar was stone and didn't give at all. Immovable objects do a lot more damage than running into a car would. Even light posts and telephone poles have some give to them - but not stone walls. And it looks like they hit it real solid.

The IIHS tests against an immovable barrier at 40 mph - and this is what a Lancer looks like at 40mph:
