compressing menus, removing french/spanish/directors commentary, and sometimes removing extras = little to no compression needed.

so your method = lose.

Your method is basically a whole whack of stuff of that most people don't want to bother me.

wav = lossless ; lossless > mp3 for some instances.

uncompressed dvds with extras and 2ndary tracks isnt really practical if youre only going to watch them on a laptop during a car/plane ride

i dont know where you got 40% from, but the average dvd stripped ends up to more or less 85% of the original.... most people wont even notice the difference
