wow. DVD shrink takes me like a half hour tops and my desktop is an old amd xp 1800+

How are you using DVD Shrink to go to .avi? My version doesn't do it.

if you have the space just rip the ISO's and mount them as drive images using virtual daemon.

otherwise download the gordian knot rippack, gordian knot codec pack and dvd decrypter and then convert into XVID

BE SURE TO SELECT THE CORRECT INPUT RESOLUTION
i dont know how many times i've forgotten to do that and then kicked myself in teh ass afterwards

shrink will compress video to 4.7 dvds if it is dual layer
when ripping remove foreign languages you dont need for better quality/disk conservation
the output files are the same as your dvd, only smaller size
you can use a number of media players to play the file. i suggest media player classic or vlan

I would either image them and open with Daemon tools or I would just rip to Divx files.

Divx is actually a fairly clean format for as much as it is able to compress a file down to.

rip them to .iso and either mount or play directly with a proggie like VLC
