Default Computer Builders

I'm planning on building a desktop for myself this summer.

How do you guys build yours? Buy everything at once or buy it as it comes on sale?

I'm thinking of starting to buy some stuff as it goes on sale.
I have no clue what is good on computers though.
I want to get a 10000 rpm drive for my main hard drive. Thats all I know so far.

I typically buy it all at once and wherever I can find the parts cheapest. Usually Newegg for example, and whatever they don't have in stock and for a deal...I order it from somewhere else.

www.newegg.com 's daily price beats most peoples sale prices.

If you can space it out over a month, try to get some deals. But it probably won't save you more than 5-10% overall.

If I do start piecing it together, I'm going to wait on the motherboard cpu and video board so I can get whats good at the time.

I don't want to be spending a lot on one though. I'll be selling my laptop, and all the components with it(2 250 external, 1 external dvd writer and a couple $70 usb hubs) so I will have money for a decent computer.

I try to get it all at once if I can. And I usually try to buy parts just before the price jump. For example...

2500xp $70
2600xp $80 <- I get this one
2700xp $150

I made the prices up of course but it usually looks something like that.

I'd get one of the nice socket AM2 motherboards. Yes the 939 boards are dropping like rocks in price, but have no upgrade path. No new cpu's are going to be made for them.

I'd look at Abit for the motherboard.
AMD X2 4400+ or higher for the cpu
At LEAST 1gb ram, 2gb if you can afford it.
Nvidia 790GS for the vid card around $200.
Western Digital 10k rpm hard drive.
NEC 3550A CD-RW/DVD+/-RW
