The extremes some will go to be jDM tizzite There is a difference between the 2 motors and it's compression. The power differences are like 6 horsepower so tell your asian-envy friend to save his money on a new motor and just blow up his current one with an untuned turbo setup.

tell your friend to stay away from the turbo setup. he can spend the 1500-2000 dollars on an intake, header, exhaust, cams, valvetrain, and some headwork and gain 20whp and 5 ft lbs of torque with his current LS without swapping to the JDM engine. that will be more reliable than going turbo. NA is best. I hate turbo cars, they're so overrated. I'd rather run a mid 15 NA than run high 13's with a turbo, because its cheating.

IF your friend decides to spend 1500-2000 bucks on his turbo, despite my advice, he CAN gain at least 80whp and 80 ft lbs of torque if its tuned correctly, depending on the boost he throws at it. But ask anyone here, they all blew their motors after they went turbo.

But like I said, I'd rather have the 20whp and 5ft lbs over the 80/80 because its NA.

for the inexperienced NA is def way better way to go, much safer. but for someone who has the time and money and experience to do it right, turbo by far turns into something NA can never reach. and it isnt cheating. its adding a performance part to your car, explain how this is cheating? its not like its cheap hp, hell a correct setup is gonna set you back a long way. its just another path one may choose to increases his hp, he just has to weigh the pro's and con's and hope his tune is good. and just because you add a turbo again doesnt mean your going to blow your motor. like i said, built correctly a turbo motor will last just as long as a NA one.

but in this guys case im gonna go with you and say they shouldnt touch a turbo...

you're right but i still dont like turbo's. I've never been in a turbo honda, or any turbo car for that matter. I just refuse to do so. I love NA cars that much.
