Good lookin' fishies.

Question for all you fish people: My roomate has a goldfish in a 10 gallon tank, maybe a 4"-5" inch fish. No matter what he tries he can't seem to get the water to stay clear. It's always dank and murky. He has a charcoal/biological filter that's always running, and I know he's used some sort of chemicals to try and clear it up but to no avail. Anybody have any magic murky-water remedies? Should he get some snails or something?

Nope, in a hallway with no windows around.

1. probably not, Jaws eats everything put before him and my roomate feeds him sparingly
2. Maybe - though it claims it "Won't dirty the water if used correctly."
3. We've tried cleaning the gravel
4. Maybe

1. gold fish make a lot of poop on their own
2. Water changes with filtered (non-tap) water.
3. More water changes, tried for 20% every other week.

This is the only picture I have of a fish that isn't blurry. They are really afraid of cameras, you can sit there and they'll come out but not if you have a camera. Plus one of the species can turn almost black and completely blend in with background.

Out of about 50 pictures taken, these are the only ones that you can see a fish.
