should i report to swift tho? they might try to hide information & evidence regarding the accident since i gave them a heads up on things...or do i wait for the police or insurance to handle things first?

Truck plates are totally different from regular plates....it'll prolly be hard tracking it down...I would call the DOT though they could prolly help you out...I bet they have every single record for any truck to ever hit the road...They don't play around.
