i wouldn't either but my comment was based on how little intrusion there was beyond the body panels.

Oh, gotcha. Based on crash test results, I think any car that got a "Good" rating from the IIHS in the side impact category would do just as well in that situation.

my guess is truck was making slow turn in street, the bmw skidded under it, truck didnt realize or was traveling too fast to stop and continued pulling across the bmw, rotating it on its side. the semi was probably empty to facilitate this.

I would think that's the firewall holding the truck up, which should be pretty strong.

is that because you think firewalls are designed to hold up extremely large amounts of weight applied to it horizontally?

Either way, it's probably the best part of the car to do that job, even though you're right, it's not really designed for that.
