Yes i totally agree with you that a certain age or maturity level must be met by the child before i would teach them how to shoot a gun. Like yesterday, my little girl just though it was funny that it would blow bottles all to hell, she couldn't understand what would happen to someone if you shot them with it.

Agreed, it would depend on the child. But I think they have to be of a certian age or maturity first.

thats between you and your wife. I dont think it's "wrong" to do it, but i wouldn't and if my wife would want to teach them how to use a gun i know it would cause a big problem between us. She does have a good reason to hate guns.

1 wya to look at it is like condom in public shcools, shuold they give them out for free or not... does it push children to have sex at a earlier age cause the interpret our giving out of condoms as a green light to have sex. Or is it to protect them cause we know they are suceptible (hope i am using it the right way here) to have sex when they are still very young.

Just dont know... you and your wife should figure it out.

Yea i understand what my wifes point is. But her brother was shot by a guy that didn't know how to use guns, it was an accident. I would think she would not want that to happen with our kids. I dunno, me and her were raised totally different.

I say do it so they know how to if the event ever comes up, but teach them responsibility so they know when to use it and not abuse it

Its your prerogative, as long as your smart about it. I can't stand guns in general.

When I was with the Boy Scouts as an Asst Scoutmaster I took the troop to summer camp, there were only 6 boys and me. We shot more ammunition than any other troop out there, some of the troops had 35 - 50 boys in them. My guys weren't too concerned with hitting the target, they shot for the strings holding the targets and the horseflys and bees flying in front of the targets. I outshot one of the scoutmasters that brought his super fancy target rifle with him, using one of the crappy guns they gave the boys. Thank you Marine Corps shooting training.
