I love dogs....and I miss mine. I had a lab/retreiver mix that was great, she was wirey as fuck and loved to jump fences....you go outside to let her in and she's 8, 10....however many houses down.....RAVEN!!!! and she'd come hoppin'. I had a yellow lab pure....and well, he was retarded. He was really smart but goofy/dopey. You could just tell by looking at hime, but he's sweet, too. I had a elkhound/sheppard mix as well and she was adorable. It was a problem, her shedding but we used to get her groomed and she's look like a sheep hehe.
As for the lap/retrve who was staying at my cousins place was just put down 1.5 weeks ago(Thurs). She was probably 13....bah.....anyhow, I'm done rambling. I wish I had some pictures of those crazy animals.
I think if you went with a lab/* mix you would be happy.
