why do imports have expensive timing belts?
I'm about due for mine, and I've decided to swap out the head for a ported/polished one while I'm at it
.
I hate timing chains. They're a PITA to change. I remember doing the one on my '75 280Z(long gone) and it took most the day, plus waiting for the gasket sealant to dry before I could drive it

.But yeah, chains are a bitch to change.
the timing belt on my Porsche is $11. If you go to a dealer, it can be a $1500 easily. But includes a $125 water pump, another $30 in belts $90 gasket set and a $5 thermostat. Not even $300 in parts if you want to do it yourself. But it's hard to tension the belt without the "proper" tool which costs $500.
The problem with a chain system is that they can be noisier than belts
i don't know, my 94 honda is noisy (clickedy, clack, especially in cold weather) even with the quiet timing belt. my cars got 133k and never been changed. i'll wait till it self destructs so i can get a new car.
