sales are in a slump for GM but that isnt the underlying reason behind their bankruptcy. like stated the unions are what are having the huge crash for GM. The union labor rates are so high and benefits are so out of proportion for the work provided that GM is throwing more money than they can afford at their labor force. only problem is they cant do anything about it because the unions would call a strike if they didnt get what they wanted, then these automakers would really be in trouble. So GM in order to survive has to do one of two basic things; either lower costs of making these vehicles or raise the msrp on these vehicles. there are other things they could do to stem the bleeding but the biggest improvement they could have would be to lower overhead but they can do neither because if they raise prices they would be unable to compete with the rising pressure from the asian market. and they are unable to lower their overhead because the unions for the most part will refuse to concessions becuase that means they themselves as an orginization lose money. The unions have GM and ford for that matter between a rock and a hard place and they know it.

 

You're a fucking idiot. How much money they make has a lot to do with HOW MUCH MONEY THEY MAKE PER CAR, and they're not making any because of unions. Get back in your Honda Civic and drive off a cliff.

its really annoying when people blame the domestic markets slump on poor vehicle quality and price gouging. these are people who dont see that theres more to a business being profitable and staying afloat then the number of products they sell.

The UAW is doing just as much to DAIMLER-CHRYSLER as they are to any other automaker, but the relationship that they have with GM is much deeper and much more debilitating. DCX loses money on every car they make, just like GM does.

I got Honda Civic because you sound like the typical ricer punk who lives in America and hates American vehicles even though he's never owned one. American cars in the 80s and 90s sucked and had tons of problems, but now they're overengineered just like the "imports". I'll take a Sky and a Tahoe thanks.

crazy? ive owned 3 different tahoes...spanning both design changes and they are by far the best american suv ive ever driven, not to mention i think they are nicer than alot of the price comparable import suv's.

 

I have a Saturn Ion Redline. Yes, there have been a problem....or six that should'nt of happened. But maybe i just tapped into a bad bunch of Redlines. :shrug:
