agree to pay the difference in the electric bill for moving the thermostat from 80 to 72. there will be an increase $. then he cant say anything.

I agree. If you pay him a flat rate for your room and use of everything in the house, it's gonna cost him more to make you more comfortable. He's the one on the account for the power bill, so talk to him about it first and say you'll pay the difference.
