i bought a brand new dell inspiron m600? notebook from my buddy, still sealed in the original box for $500. then i gave it to my sister. I should mention that he gets them from a guy that works for dell who gets these notebooks at the cost of $100 off his paycheck and turns around and sells them for $500 each if i still had his number i'd hook u up but alas i lost my phone

It's $200 more than I want, but it's also got better specs than I was looking for too... so that Dell B130 looks to be about the best so far.

try craigslist? find a used one for cheap, pick it up the same day, no tax or shipping. you can find a lot of good deals, and stuff that's in great condition.

Ended up spending more than suggested before, but then again also got a lot more than I originally wanted too.

http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicati...&CMP=ILC-FPM01

Acer AS3004WLCi AMD Sempron 3100+ 1.8GHz / 802.11b/g Wireless / 15.4-Inch WXGA / 512MB DDR / 60GB HDD / CDRW / DVD Combo / Windows XP Home / Notebook PC

2day shipping was a bitch $41 but they got these 4 easy payments thing that'll streach it out over 4 months with no interest. So that's cool. I read a lot of reviews on this one, they mostly just say that the battery sucks and lasts at most an hour. Which isn't a big deal for me, I would always be near a plug except in the car.

cool. acer makes good notebooks.

the battery life probably sucks because it uses an AMD CPU. despite the performance, AMD has never been able to engineer their mobile processors to be as energy efficient as intels', so they suck up battery life like no other. it's a pity...
