I know. It's like always being labeled as. In Sociology, there's a theory called the Labeling Theory. If someone constantly labels you as BAD, then you will take on that secondary characteristic, and give them MORE of that, even if it's not in to BE bad. Constantly drilling the bad statistics is a form of institutionalized labeling.

When I worked at Gladstone's in Malibu, I had a General Manager who would get hang out and have a few drinks with us after really busy nights. But one night he took things too far. Mind you, this is after 5 years of working there, and we ALL partied together. He's a tall White guy. Blond hair, and blue eyes.
A group of heads were hanging out one night, including my blonde haired, blue eyed ex girlfriend who still worked there. She was now dating a manager there who was Mexican. They were all talking, minus me and the current boyfriend, and The GM replies to one of my ex's comments, "Oh Julie, your opinion doesn't matter, 'cause you fuck ******s and Mexicans!
Needless to say, it got back to me, and HR was all over it. I could have completely pulled the race card, and have called Gloria Allred and could have been a millionare, but I didn't do it. Got him to go to rehab. I had to end a cycle of pulling the race card, and I got 350 people to watch me do it. Small victory for a fucked up deal.
I was one of the hardest working guys there. I quit 7 years ago, and they STILL compare the way I worked the Expo line to any new guy that is hired. It was horrible to feel that no matter HOW HARD I WORKED, It was still viewed that way in some form.
Tough issue.
