What the hell just happend?
You're lucky to get off of that one. My coworker got one of those tickets last month and it was considered Reckless Driving. He went in to court and the judge was like "You know I can fine you $2500 and place you behind bars for 9 months!". His jaw dropped when he heard that. He's an older guy too and was coming out of a street where there are 3 lanes on each side of the road and a suicide lane up the middle. The bus was directly across from him on the opposite side of the road and in a Right Turn lane with it's lights on.
A cop saw him go and pulled him over. Apparently they've given over 60 tickets in that exact location since the beginning of the year. He got lucky and they dropped it down to Improper Driving.

I remember when I got pulled over for going 116 in a 65 and got off easy with a $250 fine and 30 day suspension of license. I felt worse for the guy before me that got a $45 fine for J-walking at 2 am. Not only that, but he was ticketed by a bicycle cop

Guy: "Sir, I was walking across a street at about 2 am, there were absolutely no cars in sight."
Judge: "Well, did the crossing signal display a red hand?"
Guy: "Well, uhh, yes, but there was absolutely no traffic."
Judge: "The fine is $45, will you be paying today or do you need time?"
Guy: :eh:
The Judge was pretty funny though. When I got up to the stand to plead my case it went like this:
Judge: "How do you plead to the charges of excessive speeding in a 65 mph zone?"
Me: "Guilty sir, however, I would like to ask the court for lienience and request to be allowed to commute to work and school if I am to be suspended."
Judge: "Son... You were travelling approximately 116 mph. The only way you will be allowed to commute anywhere for the next 30 days is if you obtain a pilots license."
I guess the rest of the courtroom thought that was pretty funny.

The little stopsigns were extended with the lights on. I should have said signs out instead of lights out, but the school didn't get out for another 10 minutes. So I drove by them all to try and find this fountain where he was supposed to be, but the lot was full and then there was a do not enter sign directly ahead. So I turned around and went back the way I came then the cop ran up to me.
I have no idea how people make it out of there every day. The school has like 4 buildings on a campus and about 9k students. 9k students trying to leave a building at the same time and get on about 200 buses is nuts.
