u do know reformatting will erase everything........

if you want to reformat restart it tapping F5 and follow instructions

well judging on what you know so far about my problem do you think I should?
I mean I can just save my pictures on some cds.
Will I lose all programs and shit or just some?

reformatting = you lose all your shit.

your pc may have come with restore discs... this will "reset" your computer to how it was when you first opened the box.

Dude... your internet might just be slow right now. Reformatting the HD might be a last resort. If your dad and your brother use it more than you, wait for them to get home and trouble shoot together. Don't wipe the drive YET. ESPECIALLY since you're not the only user.

it will be like the first day you took it out of the box

go to start run type msconfig then chose selective startup then choose the startup tab on top and uncheck all then only recheck ccapp and partseal and restart..... try that and see what it does.

sony has a partition on the hdd for reformatting, no disc needed. i train people to troubleshoot those
