These are his career earnings with Boston.

2002 Boston Red Sox $7,250,000
2003 Boston Red Sox $7,500,000
2004 Boston Red Sox $8,000,000
2005 Boston Red Sox $8,250,000

and frankly, he's not THAT good. He's not terribly quick in the outfield, has a .290 career batting average, and he can't hit for power at all. I mean yeah he's a good hitter, but does he think he's worth THAT much more?

i think he's an outstanding playmaker in center... except that his throwing distance is :a:

he's a pro's pro and he comes through when it matters. i do believe that a large part of leaving boston was contract term. i think the sox offered him one less year

who wouldnt leave their job for more money and lengthier job security? i would. and one thing that everybody has in common, if you make minimum wage or you're bill gates, no matter what nobody says "no i dont want more money" anybody would take more money if it's offered to them.

Yeah, but when you're a baseball player and are getting paid hand over fist to play a game, one that you presumeably love, loyalty to a team plays a larger role than just a paycheck. Thats why certain all stars, such as Jeter, will spend their whole career in one place. Sure, another team could pay him more but is it really worth switching teams all the time for?
