^^ Damn...36's, those would be huge...I think they are only 26". The chrome comes next week.

Reno...what did you pick up the kona for? And if your friend is looking at the hardrocks now, which one? V-Brake or Disc? The componentry on the rockhopper is a step up on the derailers and fork, but no disc.

You don't need disc brakes in CA...that whole no rain thing makes disc kind of a moot point. h:

i'm not sure which exactly he's looking at.

i got mine -- '05 cinder cone -- for $725. retail i think was $850. the '06 model they went cheaper on some components, i think retail is now at about $700.

You get better force gain and better feel than with V-brakes. Also, you won't blow tires by overheating your rims, and having a bent rim doesn't keep you from stopping. h:

That said, the Rockhopper is a very good XC hard tail, so enjoy it this summer

^^ The mechanical disc's that were on here (Tektro) are not the greatest, and I REALLY had to squeeze down to stop. The Raleigh that I was looking at had Haynes brakes, so those were nice. The Rockhoppers V-Brakes are amazing with their response, and you don't have to be slamming on your brakes all the time so you won't worry about overheating your rims.
