the bass is an integral part of nearly all forms of rock music, jazz, blues... if you just strip the bass out of any band, they're going to sound pretty hollow and empty. one notable exception is the white stripes, but their sound is pretty thin to begin with.

Thanks for the unnecessary lesson, genius. I'm talking about simplicity and plainness. Bass is meant for support, not for ingenuity or creativity. Ever heard a bass solo? I rest my case.
