yea i saw after i posted and was too lazy to edit. but how does distance affect the shoot? i figured wind could, and how do you correrct for that?

Distance affects bullets by trajectory. Bullets don't go straight, they go in an arc.

My marlin can shoot groups like that @ 50y with cheap ass wildcats

Just bustin your balls. Those are some nice groups. What brands did you put on that? (it is a 10/22 right) I need to get to the range and knock some dust of teh artillary. Dang it's been a while

As far as iron sights go, you don't. You sight the rifle at 25 yds, which gives you a dead on hit at 25 and 300 yds. The trajectory then also follows a path which is more likely to hit a person. At least, that's what my Army friends tell me.
