The main problem with your dual-purpose idea is that anything decent at going down a drag strip will be too modified for any autocross class in which it'd potentially be competitive, and anything that fits in an autocross class where you stand even a chance probably will be pretty regular in the 1/4 mile.
I'm no autocrosser, but the lighter the car the easier it is to make it handle good. If it was me, I'd pick something relatively lightweight that I happen to like, and go have fun with it.

Good point, I'd be doing more racing than dragging. The whole drag thing would be more of a "once and done" kinda of thing just to try out how fast the car can go.
Thanks again.
Thanks again.

They make fun cars in the twisties. If I had the money, I'd buy a 1st gen and never register it, and just track the car.
Couldn't deal with being seen in public with it.

When you say "weekend track car," what sort of track are you referring to? Road course, autocross, drag strip...something else?

Last time I bring you soup when you're sick..................fag
MKIII is alright, probably not what I would want for autoX, its heavier than the MKIV and can't make the power of the MKIV. If you are autoX on a budget I would go for like a 240sx or something
