Default Am I being too anal? - Difference in import scene

Well, my recent visits to the G35 forums left me kinda dissappointed.

I was seeking advice for some performance mods, but after a lot of searching, I found out that the majority of the people don't really know what they're talking about.

They're mostly based their feedback on:

1. Sounds
2. Prices (higher = better)
3. Looks
4. Reputations

There are some that really know their stuffs really well, but they're barely on there. Most are just rich people or spoiled brats who're just giving $$ for others to do their stuffs.

I really miss the old Honda scene where most of the stuffs are DIY and we'd have to research, trial and error to see what's best for our cars.

Just like I was asking about the header-testpipe-catback setup for the G35C and want to do 2.5" straight back, true dual exhaust, but the rest of them are like: "why? Don't do it, get this, it sounds better, etc." Half of them don't even know what I'm talking about and don't know any specs on their stuffs, like the piping of their exhaust, the size of their header collector, nor the diameter of the intake pipes.

I mean, for example, about the Pop-charger and the Stillen Air box that they're so hyped about. In my eyes, they're nothing but a basic Short Ram intake with a heatshield, of which, any of our Honda enthusiasts can fabricate up that heatshield.

So my question is, is it because that I've been exposed to things from different angles and DIYs that I see it different than most of them, or am I just being anal about it? Should go with the flow like the rest of them?

Rule #1, buy what you like and you'll never be disappointed.

It's always good to take everything into consideration. Use their words as suggestions, but not decisions.

more expensive does not mean better.

Used to. But companies got wise to that and now just simply charge more, but not make the product better. Make you THINK it's better just cause you are paying more... when in reality... you are just paying more.

Just different scene.

Why do you think all the Ferrari and Lambo guys get Tubi exhaust? It costs like a gazillion bucks and its for like a 2 ' pipe basically...............

Also you're looking at a car more luxury oriented than performance oriented.

I told you man. The Z Community is very similar. Most owners are older and inexperienced when it comes to modding. They weren't in the scene back in '93 when some of us were driving Civic EX's slammed with a Racing Sports Akimoto intake, DC Sports Headers, and Greddy exhausts like we were the s***. h:

If you search around though you'll find some true enthusiasts who know more than the rest.

Most those guys are just new school ricers. Not saying there aren't those who know what theyu are doing and put function over form, but a majority are new to vehicle modding in general and are going through the phase that randy mentioned.

I agree with your guys totally.

I mean, when I came there and asked for what should be the first thing to do, they listed:

1. Tint
2. White coners
3. LEDs
4. Wheels

I was like, wtf? Didn't I see this like 5-6 years back when Altezza came out?
