10yo Protests Miniskirt Dress Code
a majority of schools are just anal about such things that they focus more on disciplining kids rather than teaching them, if that makes any sense to some of you all.
-----Not serious part------
then again I went to Buena Highschool, which last i read had the highest (if not one of)pregnancy in all of the US lol :chuckles: yes they were anal about dress code, few girls wore skirts, the ones that did it was up to their knees...yet a majority of them were sluts
h: i loved highschool :chuckles:

i'm not saying schools with uniforms don't have their share of problems. kids are always going to want to rebel and bang and whatever. but with some serious ground rules in place, it's better than nothing. certainly better than having a bunch of knocked up tarts as half the graduating class.

I am on the fence with the article. I think if the school has a dress code, then the students should follow it. But I see no problem with protesting and challenging authority. However, I do see the mom as trash for allowing her daughter to wear that. :ugh: She is probably in the 5th grade...she should not be wearing that.

anyway, there are plenty of ways to be creative, expressive, and individual. with your personality, your work, your dedication, your ambition, etc. etc.. no one should need to use clothes to express themselves. maybe going all uniform all the time is a bit of a stretch, but i see nothing wrong with a set of firm ground rules.
and yeah, you're right, socializing is a big part of school. i think, as kids, we do our most important learning in how to socialize, and interact with other people, through school. actually, that probably supports the uniforms argument. i mean, how many kids did you know in school that hated it, that were always picked on, that became absolute introverts, purely because of the clothes they wore, or because they were just a little bit different (whether because their family couldn't afford anything nice, or whatever)..
anyway, i'm just thinking out loud here.. i realize that there is a lot more to the issue. but i truly believe there are a few basic problems that happen in every school across the nation, that can easily be solved, or at least improved, if people were to open their eyes just a little bit, and take a bit more responsibility.
and contrary to popular belief, anarchy is not a good thing. you can't just let people do whatever they want. and teaching respect is extremely important.

im not even going to lie, i will admit that through school (grade school that is) i did not have education on the top of my priority list. Atleast for me, I myself did go to school for socializiation. I never took it seriously until I finally went to college. Maybe it was because school was fairly easy for me. But yes, I did go to school to socialize.
ill leave it at that cuz you have made some good points that I do agree with. Especially about anarchy
h: law and order is needed, its what seperates us from the animals (or makes us the animals depending on how u view it

i'm not saying girls should wear things like that all the time, but it doesnt mean they shouldnt have the option. it's the parents who should set the rules and then punish the children.
as far as the whole whore look goes, i dont mean to get philosophical, but the sexual thing about it is pushing the edges of whats allowed... adding resrictions only makes things more forbidden, and therefore more disirable.

I drove by an elementary school yesterday and all the kids were outside playing, and everybody was wearing a uniform (most elementary school around here require them now)... It made me sad. I think school uniforms are one of the stupidest things ever.
