grill masters help me out
So I am looking to buy a grill for my apartment's patio and stay within a budget of under $100. My apartment is in Philly and is fenced in, although we share a back yard with the house next door (no fence between the two yards). I am not opposed to gas, but I think charcoal will be cheaper and less appealing to those who may look to steal it. What do you guys recommend? I was looking at the Weber Silver serious, both 18.5" and 22.5" diameters.
if you're looking for a cheap charcoal grill, head to Wal-Mart. They have lesser brands for 1/2 the price of a Weber.

this might be closer to $40 in stores.

While I agree that charcoal tastes better, Gas is soooo much easier to use. I've had both in the past, and if I just want to grill up a burger for myself or a couple of friends, you just light the gas grill & go. With charcoal, you have to light it up and let the thing warm up forever, not to mention storing charcoal and dumping it once you're finished.
Charcoal = great for large parties and extended barbecues
Gas = great for time and ease of use.
Consider buying a grill either through Craislist/classifieds/garage sales. I've bought a decent grill in the past from a garage sale that cost me $20 with a full tank of propane. Sold it 2 years later for $15 with an empty propane tank at another garage sale.

Garbage? :dunno:
I like gas because you can regulate the temperature.

charcol is by far the nicer way to cook. gas on the other hand is easier to deal with, esp in the winter.
in the past few years due to the new safety valves installed on all gas grills i have grown increasingly aggrivated with the quality of many gas grills, the only ones i would suggest would be from vermont castings which cost a good deal more than anything else. all the others i have delt with (charbroil etc...) have had major annoyances.
For these reasons and your price range i will suggest a charcoal grill. it takes a little more work, but the food tastes good and for those who arent going to be using the grill 5 days out of 7 it's a good choice.
as for someone stealing it-- just chain it to the deck if you're that worried
