Default quick tax question(s)

Ok, I'm doing my state taxes right now and I'm to the part where they ask about a renter's deduction. So here's my question? Can more than one person claim this deduction if they all rented at the residence? i.e. can both my ex-roommate and myself claim the deduction? Also, should I put down the total cost of rent or just the portion of it that actually came out of my own pocket? I mean, sometimes the amount I personally paid fluctuated a bit so it's hard to say...thanks for any help.

I'm going to say that yes, you can do the renter's deduction, but only for the amount of rent that you are paying, not the entire rent amount.
