2. Pentium D 805 - New Cheapest and OCed to 3.8ghz+ compared to the cheapest Amd64 Single core 3000+ Venice. 805 has much larger L2 Cache and Dual processing.
3. My new Pentium D920 rig. New 65nm P4 at dual core. 4.2ghz stable OCed by air running with X1800XT-512MB = make your AMD fan boy drools :-p

This is to say that nothing is better than another. It's all depends on what you want. I've owned both, but now all my rigs are P4 and they're stable than my previous AMD setup. Of course, I still have my X2 setup too, but I don't use it anymore :-p
amd 64 has been lab tested for gaming, P4 got owned. period.

AMD, although it is honestly brand loyalty. Both are similar for what you will pay. Any difference will only be noticable if you are a serious user..

Well if you are gaming while trying to record a show, it will spike, so that would ruin the whole reason for recording a show.

What about cooling on the 2, which one is going to need more attention? I know my Athlon XP ran pretty hot until I go the thermaltake copper heatsink.

My friend preaches over and over to me that AMD's get too hot. Okay, great too hot for what? under full load any cpu gets hot. Just make sure you adequately cool your cpu, and you'll be fine. Personally, I dislike any type of oem cooling device that is packaged w/ CPU's. It's to your advantage to buy an oem cpu and buy an aftermarket cooling solution (heatsink and fan). CPU's packaged as oem, are generally cheaper.
