Default All Drummers!!

Im Looking for a drum set for my b-day what is really good (with everything i need to start playing) under $500, the heads and cymbals dont have to be top quality because i will change them out with time but i want something good that will hold up for a while. I am a guitarist so it will not be my main thing, just something too play every now and again

What kind of music are you going to be playing. If it's anything other than pop-rock or jazz, don't get a Perl. In the last 6 years that company has gone to shit. I've always like PD/DW, Tama and Mapex. The main rule I was taught when it comes to drum kits, there's a company's lowend, mid and elitest instruments. Buy the smallest elitest kit. There cheap because there usually just a 4 piece. With this you can do learn the basics and stuff. Then as you get more money buy more rack toms, floor toms, etc. The reason for this is you can mix different company's drums on one kit without having to spend extra money and having left over hardware parts and drums. Different companies excel in different drums and sounds.

their prices arent exactly the best, but music123.com or musiciansfriend.com have good reviews to read. for that price i remember there being a good mapex kit. its been a while so i dont remember the specifics. not sure how good their hardware is.

tama makes good hardware for the price but im not a fan of their low-end sets.

i love DW pedals h:

A drum set with cymbals for 500?
Good luck finding a decent new one for that.

Pearl, and Yamaha are great sets. CB is mid quality.

I personally don't like Pacific/DW. Trash. IMO, buy a decent kit, 4 or 5 piece and get good on that, then buy a better one. Also don't go cymbal happy right off. High hats, crash and ride are all you need.

I need to sell my kit and my ride cymbal.
