when my oldest sister's man was going to propose to her, he asked for both of my parent's blessings, but he only lived an hour or so away.

when my other older sister's man was going to propose, he called on the phone....from DC to CA. my dad owned him saying "You're asking me to give my daughter to you, I think its better that you ask in person, regardless of how far away you are." needless to say, things are all happy and dandy.
