I like this interface better...but it seems really laggy and takes forever to update and isn't very responsive at all.

Still in beta so I am sure there are some things they are working out through user feedback etc. It does use less resources than iTunes though which is a plus.

Its froze 2 times so far. I haven't had a chance to even listen to music yet. It looks nice though.

How much memory does it use up? More than iTunes? More than WMP? WinAMP?

Usually the purpose of an open source program is to be more efficient and less of a burden to the computer as well as the user...so I'm assuming it uses less resources than both itunes and WMP...however, winamp doesn't really have a file management system like the previous two do.

umm, i think the actual purpose of an open source program is to be open source -- go figure. i can choose to write a program as resource heavy and code bloated as i want, but with the expectation that someone will take it, tweak it, and lean it out. and that right there is what i think open source is all about.

Yes, but who would want an open source program that is less efficient and uses more resources? The whole point is for it to be better (through time and tweaking as you put it) than the existing programs.

Open Source is about going back to the way things were before microsoft came along.

edit: well maybe not entirely, but to a better time when things were more open and freely avaliable.

well, no one. but i would say that leaner, more efficient programs is the effect, not necessarily the definition. but anyway, i think you somewhat agree on this. same thing, different words.

Yeah, I think I'm talking more about the reason behind the purpose rather than the purpose itself.

What do you mean?

on a side note: SongBird is just a "Proof Of Concept" right now... I don't think it's even beta yet.
