computer people...need some help!

Default computer people...need some help!

alright so i just bought a new computer b/c my laptop is a piece of crap....im pretty sure i can transfer stuff from my laptop to my new computer but how do i go about doing this?....i pretty much just want to transfer my music but i have some viruses on my computer so would that be a good idea?

external HDD, Cross over cable (look like ethernet) - Cheapest and fastest. Or through a router. What do you have?

a crossover cable eh?...im not sure if i have one of those...and i dont have a router yet....where can i get one of these crossover cables?

no.

crossover cable is like an ethernet cable, but 2 of the wires inside are crossed. ~10 bucks or less

you can also get a usb cable that can connect to 2 computers with a box int he middle... ~40 bucks i think

depending on the type of virus/trojan... you risk transferring the virus/trojan over to the other computer.

if you can, take it to a friend's house and transfer your files over his router.

ok im going to get my dad to pick up one of those crossover cables...thanks for the help guys

ok i got the crossover cable...now what? i tried putting them in each of the computers' ethernet slot and nothing happened....then i tried a usb cable with them both connected to my cable modem and still nothing.....what the heck do i do now? can someone give me some steps on how do send the files?

setup a network and then transfer the files
