couldn't have said it any better.

i might add, that this isn't just about making some more money. in the long run, this could very easily make the difference between the life and death of the company. if they stubbornly stuck to an anti-censorship-at-all-costs stance, someone else would just step in to fill the void. china is rapidly becoming the world's largest and most powerful economy, and will eventually have the most internet users of any country. for a company like google, staying out of the chinese market would be suicide. in time, your competitors would easily surpass you in revenue alone. make no mistake, i'm fervently against many of the things china does and how they do them. it's too bad it has to be this way, but that's reality.

making excuses for unethical business practices just because it's the decision that will generate the most revenue, is what leads to people getting fucked up. i pity the poor chinese family that has to endure even more years of communist rule simply because they cannot find the means nor help to revolt against the country that oppresses them.

nice job, guys. fight the power! :run:

Well you are not being fair in your view here. People cry about censorship within the US because our consttution and laws protect us from censorship to an expected level and if that is encroached upon it is our duty to raise our voices against it.

In China they are not granted the same freedom of speech and lack of censorship the US is allowed. Google saying it will or will not allow it's services to be used is not going to change their censorship laws in any way. If instead they allow them useage with agreed changes it may at some point due to education etc. allow these restrictions to at some point be circumvented and lose power among it's people.

So you don't buy anything that has been produced in China right? I mean if you buy items made in China or it's republics you are agreeing with the countries policies ya know.
