Default Help me find a new laptop

So, my mom bought me a Gateway/E-Machines 7422GX last february for my birthday. I loved the laptop but there have been just way too many issues with the screen. It is a big case design flaw and after sending it in 5 times to be fixed it is going to be replaced. So, I am thinking of taking the new laptop and selling it and coupled with some of my own cash buying a new laptop.

I use it as my primary computer so it would have to be able to support that lifestyle. I don't play games but I do some photo editing. My biggest issue is that I want a good hinge design. The issue with this laptop is that the hinges are about 1.5 inches long and plastic. The one computer I know that has a great hinge design are the Apple laptops. They are a bit pricey but I am not opposed to them.

If anyone has any insight on some other laptops please let me know.

Whatever you do, steer clear of HP/Compaq laptops.

I think I will get a Dell. Is the Pentium M going to be obsolete soon?

2-3 yrs ago almost every dell laptop had a flaw with the screen.
I used to buy lots of dell laptop fully loaded dvd-rw..... then i would sell them on ebay for 3-5 times the price i pay for. ofcourse I always said no warranty.
I guess now they most have fix the problem. btw thats why almost every online store has so many damn dell laptops.

IBM certified used laptop is the best way to go if you dont want to spend over $700. I never seen a ibm laptop gone bad by itself.
Toshiba laptop is my second choice, I still have my first toshiba laptop. is the protege 7200 p3 600mhz. I love the fact how thin and reliable this laptop is. (perfect for gps n the car)
