Default Computer Breatherens (sp?) unite

Ight....im having several on going issues with my PC right now that i need some help with....

1) I keep my task manager in my task manager so i can see the performance from time to time. Im noticing when i open lets say my computer it sky rockets to 100% then drops back to about 30%. It doesnt even have to be my computer....it can be anything...once i open it the system sky rockets then drops back down to normal...Im running a Dell Dimension 2400 with 2.2GHZ processor and 768MB ram. I dont have many applications running at the current time...Like right now i have Itunes, Gaim, and Firefox. In the task manager i have real VNC, ServU FTP server, Emule, and SAV. There should be no reason my PC is acting like that...I just formatted it 2 days ago.

2) For some reason i'll look at my task manager and see FireFox eating up close to 60k of Mem. Usage...is that normal for this app. It happens even when i have just one browser open.

3) When i be playing music and open a program or even just when i boot windows the sound some times sound like its stuttering or choppy and i cant for the life of me figure out why.

I think those are the three main problems im having now...any help is greatly appreciated

Not to derail Jae's thread, but I get booted off AIM when I'm idle for more than say 1.5 hour or so. Suggestions? :hsugh:

Get Adaware and Spybot and do a major check for spyware. Also get say Avast and do a good scan for viruses.

Secondly Firefox is a pig when it comes to memory, I'm currently at 92mb with 7 tabs open

that's because aim is a piece of shit. easy fix would be to download GAIM and use it instead of retarded aim.

1. when was the last format? do you turn off services you dont need?

2. ff has a memory leak. you can periodically close it or try one of these
http://www.google.com/search?q=firefox+memory

Not that I want to derail this thread, but it's spelled "brethren"... and plurality is implicit, so there's no need for the "s" h:
