CPU spiking like that is a known issue with windows. I remember there was something that could be done about it... but it would make half of windows unuseable or something stupid. I don't remember much. Happens here too.

I think you meant 60MB of ram?

My work pc was hovering around 55-67MB ram use for firefox all day with like 5 tabs open all the time.

2) thats semi-normal... firefox doesnt use much memory, but the wmp, flash, java, etc plugins use alot more and dont usually release it until firefox is closed.

3) bad sound driver

maybe one of your sticks of ram is faulty or you aren't getting enough power to that one stick? Mine crapped out like your pc is doing when one of the 1 gig sticks i had died on me.

Did you upgrade anything in the past few weeks?

You can also recreate that cpu spike if you right click on a drive/folder/file in windows explorer. As long as the alternate menu is open, you'll be spiking up.

I have a dual cpu system so it only shows 50% use total, but the one cpu graph is just pegged at the max.

Actually i just bought a 512 stick and i never had this problem before i installed that...now it pegs like crazy when i open something.

Grifter...my last format was on monday. The PC started acting dumb so i jsut said to hell with it and formatted my c: drive.

I tried reinstalling the sound drivers for the onboard sound card and still the same thing. Im thinking that the sound card could be on its way out. But...I am noticing these problems after i installed that stick of 512

O and Dave...thanx for the spelling....i always misspell that darn word
