If you want to do all that stupid snowpark style riding with the jibbers then it will take a lot more balance, if you want to actually use a board where they excel such as all mountain riding and powder runs, then it doesn't take as much as you would think.
edit: and if you are just going to make excuses why you can't do something then by all means don't even try it, snowboarding will be better off without whiney excuse makers

I had been skiing twice in my life and didn't like it at all (personal preference). So while living in Sacramento we decided one weekend to go up to Donner Ski Ranch and my roomates were going to go skiing. I decided I was going to rent a board and learn to ride instead. I was in two pairs of jeans, an overweight jacket, and a pair of elk skin gloves.
I rented a board and boots and went out all day freezing my ass off and falling all over the place. I was frozen by lunch but I was having the best time of my life because I was getting better with every run. By the end of the day I was making it down a few runs without bailing too badly. That was my only trip for the next 3 years.
I moved to Montana 3 years later and lived 30 miles from the ski mountain. I worked all summer long to buy a board, boots and other gear as well as a season pass because I had decided that I was going to do it and I was going to enjoy it and be good at it. By the end of the first season I was dropping cliffs, riding trees, chutes, couliers, deep powder, and back country as well. I love it and I will never stop doing it unless they put me in a wheelchair.
I have tried skiing since I started riding and I actually kinda got the hang of it...enough to go down some greens, but it still isn't my thing even though I do have respect for those who do it well. We all ride the same mountain so there is no real reason to play the whole "my sport is better than yours" bullshit...that is just highschool drama pushed by dumbshits who never grew up.
